safety first in the lab

We just had our briefing for safety rules and using safety equipment in our Analytical Chemistry class yesterday. We are all aware that as a medical laboratory science student, we will be dealing with various chemicals and equipments in our experiments. I am glad to know that the school has provided new Fire Resistant Safety Equipment and other safety supplies necessary to every laboratories.

Fusion Chip (PHENOM PROCESSOR)

Phenom is Advances Micro Devices’ (AMD) desktop microprocessor. It is based on the K10 microarchitecture or Family 10h Processors. The triple-core versions, code-named Toliman, will be the Phenom 8000 series, quad cores, code-named Agena, in the Phenom 9000 series, and high-end enthusiast versions, code-named Agena FX, in the Phenom FX series.

The Phenom processor has an integrated memory controller, cache, and four cores on a single chip. It is currently available in speeds up to 2.3GHz.

AMD is expected to launch several models of the Phenom processor in 2008.

AMD’s Fusion chip will be based on Phenom. The Fusion chip combines a graphics processing unit and CPU on one chip. Fusion chip will be made using AMD’s 45-nanometer production technology. (more…)

The youth today is endowed with much potential brought about by advancement in genetics, education, and character formation. It is just an unfortunate truth that much of these potentials are not utilized. Why is this happening to the nation? It is just that FEAR is always behind the hopes of making a difference. There is always a fear of being rejected, being ashamed, or failing in whatever steps we plan to take. That is why more and more young people become self-centered and they no longer think of society. On the other hand, why is it that there is still a handful of the youth who rally on the streets - hoping that their voices would be heard? Rallying on the top of your lungs to call for changes is not necessarily the ideal way. What we are trying to imply is that why can’t we, who did not choose to voice out our concerns, do a little to help these people? Our brothers and sisters, who have taken the bold stand in the hope of succeeding in changing the bitter lives we are having. (more…)

“Where are the youth who will consecrate their golden hours, their illusions, and enthusiasm for the welfare of the nation? Where are they who would generously shed their blood to wash away so much shame, so much crime, so much abomination? Pure and spotless the victim has to be for the holocaust to be acceptable! Where are you, youth who will incarnate in yourselves the vigor of life that has fled from our veins, the purity of ideas that have soiled in our minds and the fire of enthusiasm that has been extinguished in our hearts? We wait for you, O youth! Come, for we await you!”

So spoke Fr. Florentino in the last chapter of Rizal’s Noli Me Tangere. A line seeking for the youth, who are and who forever will be the only hope for the nation. The question is: have we ceased thinking about our social responsibility for our nation’s welfare? Have we surrendered the fight to free our nation from all the mishaps it has been undertaking or have we already raised the white flag and started to become useless? (more…)

my sister’s bday

Today is my sister’s 15th birthday. I have been thinking of what will be my birthday gift for her since last month. I know if I’ll ask her what she wants, she would ask me to buy everything she loves to collect. So, I come to think what she really needs. I always hear her complaints about her cellphone. She hasn’t use it for five months because it’s signal was lost so she can’t be able to send and receive calls or text messages. So I think I can make her happy if I’ll make her cellphone be repaired so that she can use it. When she knew it, she was very happy and excited. I can see it in her face with a big smile. (more…)

Nowadays, the world has become very polluted. We cause air pollution directly through our use of electricity, fuels and transportation. You cannot escape air pollution, not even in your own home. There are two causes of air pollution…by natural and the consumers. The natural causes of air pollution are volcanic eruptions, and forest fires which send smoke, ashes and, gases into the atmosphere. Humans are actually the ones who contribute substantially more to the air pollution problem. The pollution is spread around throughout the world, and as a result, it dangers the health of people and ecosystems. (more…)

paranoid to bacterias

As I enrolled to Clinical Laboratory Science course, I became more paranoid about bacterias. Sometimes we don’t realize our actions or lifestyle that we are very exposed to bacteria growth. Then, it’s the common reason why we often get sick. As a student, in our chemistry laboratory class, we tend to forget to follow the basic rules inside. Some students, or even me - I admit it! that we wear our lab gowns many times and not being washed. Unconsciously, it is exposed to our infective tables everyday as we perform our experiments. And after washing the glasswares - like test tubes, beakers, etc., we even use our lab gowns to wipe it dry. Not in our minds that some reagents or chemicals may contaminate in our gowns that we’re wearing. (more…)

self-indulgent perfectionist

A few years ago a friend confided that she made an appointment to have her eyes “worked on.” It was unfair, she complained, but there was nothing else she could do to keep her face looking young. So, just as her personal trainer had helped her sculpt her forty something body into one that many 20-years olds would envy, her cosmetic surgeons in Chicago would do the same for her face. I was stunned. I had never noticed any of the offending flaws, and I begin to think of her as a self-indulgent perfectionist. Now that a few years have passed and I’ve watched my own facial lines sprout and multiply, I’m beginning to understand her feeling of helplessness. While I still believe it’s our attitude about wrinkles that needs major surgery, I’ve often wondered if there’s something safe and simple to do to control the future of my face.

I really enjoyed the Kadayawan Festival last week because I was able to take advantage with the big discounts offered in some stores in Davao City. Moreover, I am not carrying my money with me. But I was able to pay in a very convenient and safest way - plastic money! There are certain banks who renew their offers very often in credit deals. And I am happy with that. I just use my credit card deals for college students last year since I am still studying in college. I was surprised to know that I was able to save much through the rewards given and cash back bonuses. As a student, it is very much needed for me to save money and make budget aside from the personal necessities but most importantly in tuitions. (more…)
