Using Projectors

October 30th, 2008 | Category: Point of Views

I belong in the field of Education and I know that right choice of teaching materials will boosts learning and make it more effective. As teachers we should make use of what’s available and give the best to our learners. Employing technological gadgets is a good source. Sometimes we use projectors, slides and power point presentation. When projector’s lamp is broken we can get good quality at projector lamp center. They can give what you need for your TV’s and projectors. It’s a good thing to know that we know where to go when we are in need of something. It saves time, money and effort plus you get the exact product that you want.

In addition, it’s important then to repair any damages with your materials since it affects the normal flow of teaching-and-learning process. I always remember the words of my college professors. I’m instilling in my mind the thought of not giving limitations to your teaching approaches and strategies. Teaching is a challenging task especially when you’re an ESL mentor or English as a Second Language teacher.

Home Entertainment

October 29th, 2008 | Category: Life

Today’s technology allows us to experience an advance home setting like putting up flat screen TVs in our living room, using no sound or quiet types of  air-conditioned units in our bedroom, and the likes. I saw several homes of Filipino celebrities and many of them had made their own theater. It’s like a home theater. They just use projector and screen. Since they’re not ordinary citizens they can’t go to the shopping malls and see movies. That’s why big screen center learning center is a great help to people like them. Showbiz personalities are busy individuals because of the nature of their work. So if they have free schedules they spend it with their family and lovers through watching movies at home. It’s the perfect time to do family bonding. Another good thing is it saves money. Imagine six members of the family that will go to theaters at the mall and will watch 2 or 3 movies. That will cost much than buying DVDs and watch it at home.

Getting my Own Motorcycle

October 28th, 2008 | Category: Family Activities/Experiences

Two weeks ago I had the eagerness to purchase my own motorcycle. As for the moment I can’t afford to buy my own car so I did plan to buy a motorcycle. It’s a great help for me and for the family if we want to buy something immediately. I was thinking that I’m gonna teach my brother on how to drive it so he can also use it. I had seen motorcycle photos and I was really interested to get one. I talked to my friends and opened the idea. The result is majority of them disagreed with my plans. According to them, it’s dangerous to be driving a motorcycle. I’m a woman and they don’t want me to drive such vehicle. Two of them said that I shouldn’t purchase one. I’m in between because I really want it. They’re really discouraging me. Well somehow they’re right. Moreover, my sister told me that I’ll get dark if I’ll be using it under the heat of the sun! LOL. She was just thinking about my skin. I just did laugh at her

Nature of Endless Desire

October 27th, 2008 | Category: Point of Views

Things on earth are deceiving. Everybody wants to become rich, fabulous, popular, visit exclusive and expensive travel spots and have that power to rule over others. But the question is- Are they really happy with it?

Reasons were seen and observed why people are unhappy in spite of the riches and comforts that they have. First, they always compare themselves to other people. They envy others who have more power, wealth and possessions than them. Second, mass media had feed us with false happiness and serenity. People’s wealth is featured on tv. Their accomplishments were televised. All the people around the world know the kind of family they have and their businesses. With all of these things people are tempted to be like them. To do whatever they can just to reach that standard of living. Insecurities can make us go crazy and worst-kill us. It’s not good to feel jealous and always want the same luxury and comfort. Wanting to live a better life isn’t bad. However if you know that’s impossible to happen then you better stop dreaming. Third, people are simply not satisfied. They always want more. I read someone’s opinion which says-Anyone who says that being poor is better than rich is a hypocrite. He added that satisfaction is the end of progress. I agree in his statements. But of course we have to be watchful.

Backyard Gardening

October 21st, 2008 | Category: Latest/Hottest Issues, Life

Nowadays, contaminated products especially from China were found distributed and sold in the market. Toxic chemicals like melamine was proven true in milk and dairy products. It’s definitely hazardous to our health. In our daily intake we didn’t notice that we are eating food daily with lots of preservatives. Eating food like canned goods is too unhealthy to the body if prepared for the family most of the time. That’s why the city  government and health office is encouraging mothers to do backyard gardening to fight against malnutrition and get good quality of raw materials to cook. In addition, planting some vegetables in our yards can help us to save money. Instead of buying we can just pick up what’s available in our food garden. I knew one family who’s doing it and if you see her children, all of them are really having good and vibrant skin. They’re not applying skin lotion because they can’t afford to buy it. They’re not rich on commercial products to be applied in the body but when you get to visit their house you can see leafy vegetables like cabbages, malunnggay and pechay. They also have squash, tomatoes, eggplant and more. However, if you don’t have the time you can do alternative ways on how to get the daily required dietary.

I do love gardening. I like to plant flowers, plants, and vegetables but since I’m not so good in nurturing agriculture ones I prefer to focus my attention with flowers. I did try to plant string onions in our Agriculture class. We were required to do it as a group. Aside from it, I haven’t tried more. I want to have my own garden in the future. I want to have a landscape in my own house. In my place there’s no enough space because we’re living in the city.

Floriculture Industry in Davao

October 08th, 2008 | Category: Latest/Hottest Issues, Point of Views

I read a news article that talks about the current situation of the floriculture industry in the city. Evelyn Laviña, the trustee of the Davao City Chamber of Commerce of Commerce and Industry Inc and officer of Floriculture Industry Development revealed that Davao can no longer meet the market demand for flowers! I didn’t think that it’s happening right now. I never thought that this can happen. As far as I know, there’s plenty of varieties of flowers here in Davao and I believe that we can provide orders of people. According to her, there’s an observable increase of demand also for flowers locally and internationally. In other words, the needed production for supply is not meet.

Reasons were seen why there’s a decrease of flower production  in the city. Here are the cited ones:

  • high cost of  prices for  fertilizers being used
  • enough time is needed to produce the demands in the market
  • sudden change of climate

If the producers are notified with a short span of time before the deadline they’ll surely can’t make it.Eventually, the weather condition affects the growth of plants and flowers. Adolfo Cañete, officer of Flori- Agri Sector had seen one cause. The shift of planters from planting plants and flowers to banana tissue culture activity contributed to low production of flowers recently.

The city is aiming that this industry will become “money earner”.Many had figured out that this is a good source of income for Davao since we can produce different kinds of flowers for nationwide and worldwide demands. So Dabawenyos are working on it to make it an “income generating industry”.

Davao city is known for our “waling-waling“. The rarest and most beautiful among all the orchids. We are lucky with the kind of climate that we have because flowers and plants can flourish. We don’t have strong typhoons that can destroy our crops, plants as well as flowers. The city is gifted with  natural gifts that we can be proud of.

I’m proud to be a Dabawenyo!

Committing Suicide due to Poverty

October 05th, 2008 | Category: Family Activities/Experiences, Point of Views

The suicide committed by a mother of four including her three children only proves that poverty in the Philippines is still at hand. The mother poisoned herself and her three innocent offsprings. According to report, the head of the family in not currently living with the family. He was away home for a long time now because the father is working in the capital city. In the province, his family was left. The husband was shocked and saddened with what he had found out when he got home. One child was spare because that little boy slept in their granny’s house the day the unexpected event happened.

This incident has something to do with family relationships and way of living. It’s uneasy to live with four children and you’re not getting enough support from your partner in life. Perhaps it be can easy if there’s something that a mother can do as an alternative source. We don’t know the recent relationship of the couple before the death of those people.

The mother had done a crime against her own children! A mother that I know always gives love and care. Yet, in this case, the light of the family is the cause of the death of her children! A mother that I know will even sail the ranging seas just to survive and give good life to her children. Mother Janeth was perhaps loosing hopes and decided to gave up the test of life.

Counseling will be given to the widower. He might be traumatized with happened to his poor family.

Melamine on Nestle Products

October 04th, 2008 | Category: Latest/Hottest Issues

Most of the food products that we use in our home is from Nestle Food Corporation. The news on TV shook my family when we heard about the a toxic chemical found in baby formula and dairy products from China which is melamine. It is a banned industrial chemical in China that is proven to cause ailment and death of children.  We were really talking about it because we have kids. My three nieces are taking milk and dairy products everyday which is produced by Nestle! Last year in my country a White Rabbit-brand Creamy Candy is taken out in the market. This candy is very popular for how many decades but when the  health officials in the Philippines claimed that  it was tainted with formaldehyde that made them decide to stop exporting such product. We should be more careful now in buying Chinese-made  goods like milk, ice-cream, yogurt, chocolate, biscuits and candy, as well as any other products containing milk. These products are the most delicate and sensitive ones  because if not shipped well or not handled properly it can affect people’s stomach and other internal organs if taken into the body. Food and product safety must be the first priority of food companies. They should double check their branches specially in their manufacture of goods in foreign branches!Speculations were heard. Follow the following links that I found in the internet. If you want to know more details about the milk scandal in China read the news articles below.
