Activating Akismet on Your Blog to Prevent Spam Comments
posted January 1, 2008 | by admin under tips |
A Plug-in called Akismet has been around the blogosphere for quite some time already. It has been a major utility to many bloggers (especially wordpress bloggers) in getting rid of spam comments. As your blog ages, you’ll notice that spam comments appear more often. It is because your blog has “taken root” in the web as far as links and robot crawling is concerned. This is where spammers invade sites and post spam comments to basically place a link to their site.
So tinker a bit with your admin panel and do the following steps:
1. Go to Plugins on your admin panel.
2. On the list, look for the Akismet plugin and activate it.
3. Upon activation, it will then give the following message “Akismet is not active. You must enter your WordPress.com API key for it to work”. Click the link in the message or look for the Akismet Configuration tab.
4. You will be asked to enter an API key. You can obtain an API key by registering with wordpress.com or you can use this: 7626c3ce3c39
5. Tick the check box under it to automatically discard spam comments on posts older than a month.
6. Then click Update options.
That’s it. Though their will still be a few spams unfiltered after that, it would be very very minimal. This will really save you a lot of your precious time.
Happy Blogging!!
